About the Venue

When it opened in 1972, the then Uris Theatre was the first large Broadway theater erected since the Earl Carroll in 1931. Designed by set designer Ralph Alswang, it is located at the front of a large office building.


In 1983, during the Tony Awards, the venue was renamed after famed composer George Gershwin.

Concessions

There are two bars located on the second floor and two bars located on the fourth floor. Water is the only beverage permitted in the auditorium unless the soda is in the capped cup available at the bar.

Know Before You Go

Entrance
You may enter through the arcade between 50th and 51st Streets. Double doors or revolving doors lead into the lobby.
Water Fountain
Water fountains available in the Rear Orchestra and Front Mezzanine.
Hearing Assistance
Headsets for sound augmentation are available free of charge. A Photo ID is required as a deposit. Copper Induction Loop is also available.
Elevators and Escalators
This theater has an elevator and escalators available to every section.
Wheelchair Access
Wheelchair seating is available in the rear Orchestra and section and in the Mezzanine, accessible by elevator.
Restrooms
Women's and Men's Restrooms are both located on the Mezzanine level, accessible both without steps.
Accessible Seating
Last row of Orchestra and Row D of Front Mezzanine are accessible by elevator without steps. Front Orchestra is only reachable by steps.
Coat Check
Coat check service is available to guests during the winter months. No bags or luggage is allowed.
